Wanted to try something typographic, something like Kapulica. Even wanted to go with a solitary ‘R’ but feared that this might be too much for some people, hence the wording by the side(see bottom right). That was my first interpretation of ‘Rustic’. But apparently this was too ‘modern’, which brings us to the second design. It is what you would call a happy accident I suppose. The idea was to combine two different typefaces to illustrate the contrast and meaning of the words. I mean, rustic decor seems like a bit of an idiosyncrasy on its own. That combined with a chair done in my second favourite method became the second version which unfortunately was rejected. Not to be deterred, I went back and created the third design with the chair replacing the ‘hole’ within the letter R. This last one was fun to do. It sort of reminds me of the face/vase optical illusion. The concept behind this was to make the chair not so pervasive, to let it blend in instead of it becoming the focus as with the previous design.
